Introduction to Bicicletas Sin Fronteras Project

Bicicletes Sin Fronteras was formed in 2012 by a local couple with the vision of empowering communities through bicycles. In 2015, this took them to Senegal, where they began the Bicycles for Education project.

This initiative has profoundly impacted students who previously walked up to six miles/10 km to school, significantly shortening their commute and increasing their energy for schoolwork. By 2024, the project has been able to donate 5,247 ¨Baobike¨ bicycles, benefiting over 9,300 students.

Bikecat Collaboration

Bikecat is a supportive partner of Bicicletas Sin Fronteras, selling their t-shirts and bracelets at the Bikecat shop in Girona and donating 1% of our benefits to the Bicicletas Sin Fronteras project in Senegal. At Bikecat, we are continuously searching for dynamic ways to support this initiative, from a fundraising campaign to organizing “viajes con alma” (nonprofit solidarity trips) that allow you to discover their work in the beautiful region of Palmarin in Senegal, Africa.

The Trip: Discover and Support

Join us on a wonderful, transformative journey to Senegal and support the “Bicicletas para la educación” project, which promotes bicycles as a tool to improve access to education for children and teenagers in Senegal.

Our collaboration with Bikefriendly has enabled us to create the Senegal Experience with Bicicletas Sin Fronteras, where you can witness firsthand the impressive routes and landscapes the country offers. During the tour, our partners at Bicicletas Sin Fronteras will guide you through schools implementing the bicycle program, providing insight into its impact on local education and everyday life.

Tour Details: A Journey with Impact

This week-long tour begins with your arrival at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Dakar, followed by a transfer to Palmarin in the Fatick Department.

You will first stay at the enchanting, dreamlike “Out of Africa” Collines de Niassam Ecolodge for four nights. Here, you will explore the Sine-Saloum Delta Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while experiencing the culture of the southern Petite-Côte. The rides will take you to magnificent wild landscapes, through forest reserves, alongside mangrove-fringed lagoons that host thousands of birds, and extensive beaches.

For the latter part of the tour, we will retreat inland to the tranquil Souimanga Lodge in Fimela. This location offers spectacular views of the Saloum River and access to more remote schools where you can witness the successful implementation of the Baobikes project. In addition, we will visit the shell Island of Fadiouth, and the surrounding baobab forest.

The profits from the tour go entirely toward sponsoring Baobikes in Palmarin. Both selected hotels support and contribute to the local economy and employment, and have agreed to donate part of their benefits to BSF.
