GIRONA GRAVEL TOUR

During the winter, in our off-season, we used to ride with pros and friends at a more relaxed pace. It was a time to catch up and, at the same time, to explore new rides for future tours.

When one of the roads ended but the path continued without tarmac, we would keep going with our road bikes (and nobody had a GPS back then!). The feeling of discovery and adventure was stronger than the frustration of getting lost and having to turn back.

Many of those off-road sections we rode connected with other roads, creating amazing routes that would have been impossible to ride otherwise.

Now, we’re bringing together all that experience to offer you a collection of the greatest rides we can do around Girona, no matter the terrain. The Girona Gravel Tour is the epic travel tour you can experience on a gravel bike or, if you dare, on a road bike – just like in the old days.

Gravel Jordi

One of the key people who makes this tour possible is Jordi, also known as Fireman Jordi or Gravel Jordi, a proud member of the Bikecat family since 2008. Yes, he’s an active firefighter — so you’ll be in very safe hands riding by his wheel.

He grew up in Santa Coloma de Farners, a small town south of Girona. As a boy, he started exploring trails and roads across the province, and after all these years, he has gained a vast knowledge of the Girona’s paved and gravel routes.

When the first professional cyclists arrived in Girona about 20 years ago, Jordi — “the local” — quickly became part of the community. They needed routes, and he knew them all!

The professional cycling scene was small back then, and great friendships were born. Especially his friendship with Michael Barry, with whom he still keeps close contact and has even visited with his family in Canada.

Together, they explored Girona on cyclocross bikes (no one talked about gravel riding back then). They knew when and where to start from and set off without knowing what time they would return. Those were real adventures, full of stories and unforgettable moments.

In 2015, as a personal challenge, Jordi created an ultramarathon event, The Pirinexus 360 Challenge. A gravel ride, no doubt! around the entire Girona Province that takes place every year.

Featured by Nick Legan in his book The Complete Guide to Gravel Racing and Adventure Bikepacking.

Since 2017, Jordi also designs and directs the gravel events at Sea Otter Europe.

He is the founder and president of the Girona Gravel Club, where he leads local rides. A way to ride with friends, discovering new routes, trails, and landscapes…Sharing adventures on gravel, a tribute to those first rides with Michael Barry, unique and epic!

As interest in gravel riding has grown exponentially, we want to let others benefit from his expertise and deep local knowledge.

That’s why we are offering 100% personalized Gravel Rides and Tours in Girona, guided by the same spirit of discovery that started it all.
